Every young person deserves space to explore their interests, try something new, and express themselves in their own way. During a recent Opportunity Passport class, volunteers from Polsinelli helped bring that idea to life at the Monroe Harding Resource Center.
Opportunity Passport is a weekly program where young adults build skills in financial literacy, career readiness, and future planning. This class added a creative element to that work, giving participants a chance to try new activities, spend time with community volunteers, and explore different forms of self-expression.
The Resource Center was busy as participants rotated through stations for canvas painting, flowerpot design and planting, beat-making, and professional headshots. Whether they were creating artwork, learning about music production, or stepping in front of the camera, each station offered something new to try in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
The headshot station also doubled as a practical resource. A professional photo is something youth can use down the road for job applications, internships, or LinkedIn profiles.
One participant spent her time creating a beautiful sunset gradient pot. Two others teamed up at the beat-making station, where one laid down a track and the other rapped over it. Meanwhile, Polsinelli volunteers worked alongside young adults by encouraging their ideas, asking questions, and jumping into the creative process themselves. The conversations and connections built throughout the day were just as meaningful as the activities.
We are grateful to Polsinelli for spending the afternoon with our young adults and for the creativity they brought to the Resource Center. We are excited to continue growing these partnerships and to welcome more companies into the work we do.
